Love love love Quebec City

We arrived in Quebec City via train on New Year's Eve. We were happy to say goodbye to montreal. Despite our local being the Gaspar tarvern and the food sensational the city is largish and very cold. We knew that we would love Quebec City before we got here as it involved a train trip to reach our destination. We are big fans of train travel. You often leave the middle of the city and arrive in the middle of the city. Taxi rides from airports to the city I often find depressing as you usually don't drive through the nice part of town. The train trip was 3 hours long and you don't have to be there hours before. We were given priority boarding because of the children but we were also scolded for having the children push the large bags!

We arrived in the heart of Quebec City to snow. It fell lightly at first but gathered momentum at great speed. Our hotel in the old town was beautiful and apparently hosting a big party for New Years. We decided not to join them and dined at an early sitting at a restaurant close by. The streets were pretty with lights Christmas decorations and of course snow makes everything look wonderful. With temperatures at -10 to -20 degrees there was no way we were going into the main square for fireworks! On New Year's Day we walked the streets as the snow continued to fall and went on the cities old slide! It was a world apart from Disneyland. You had to pull the wooden slide up the top yourself and down you went (apparently you can reach speeds of 70km per hour). I was doubtful to the speeds achieved but unfortunately the boys won ( I didn't know it was a race). That evening we dined at 29 q'aiit. It was by far our best meal. With the snow still falling and a bottle of red wine enjoyed there was so much to love about the city. Our last day in Quebec and the kids toes and hands have frozen once too often so a quiet afternoon indoors with batteries being recharged to face our next stop. When we glance at the New York forecast of 1 degrees we know that will be a piece of cake. Try and visit this beautiful place but maybe a month or two earlier than us.?
