It does rate in the top 10 islands in the world
Its time to move on and to say farewell to our beloved Havr Island. It has been a magical few days and I hope that we can come again. I have loved it for many reasons - these include:
1. We finally got the balance right between what the kids want vs want the parents want. we moved for the last night to a very family friendly hotel, where we could sit in the comfort of a lounge chair by the pool with a glass of wine, while we watched our kids terrorize all of the guests as they flew down the water slide.
2. We discovered the suite - which comfortably housed the 5 of us, and we no longer had to worry about interconnecting rooms - which are rare - and you have to fight with reception about them - even though you had booked them. (I was warned about that 3rd child - thanks Tina)
3. We ate well. Once again we discovered a restaurant in the back streets of the town - Maconda - which had the best seafood we have come across. we devoured seafood spaghetti, risotto and veal schnitzel along with a bottle of rose. The nuns in full habit walking past added to the atmosphere.
4. Haggling. I finally got to haggle. In Italy when I tried - they said that they didn't understand me (great ploy on their part) - so I reluctantly paid full price (although 60 euros for a leather jacket is nothing to claim about - even it does end up being vinyl). In Croatia I lost the urge to haggle - the cost of living here appears to be comparable to Australia yet their wages are nowhere near what we earn. I didn't have the heart to bargain with them and was generally happy to pay full price. However with an international hotel chain I had no heart - and managed to get them down on the room price. A victory at last!
5. Running. It has been really hard to run this holiday (and its not for want of trying). In Italy you take your life in your hands when you go out the door - there are no footpaths. In Croatia to date its also been difficult - no footpaths again and some questionable running areas. In Hvar the conditions were perfect. I have taken every opportunity to run around the harbour. yesterday for the first time in a long time, I felt I could run forever, I also made some old croatian guys day as he wished me good morning in english. I responded in croatian and he had a huge smile on his face. Z had the smile wiped of his face when he went for a run this morning followed by a swim in the ocean only to see some old guy strip off for his morning swim. Too much information!
6. Reading. Nearly finished my second book Phil and will have a review for you of the "The guernsey literary and potato peel society" soon.
we could have stayed longer, but with time ticking away and thoughts heading towards home, we are going to the Plitvice falls for 2 nights. It will be cold, but am looking forward to the new adventure. No boats I promise grandma. Dovidjena for now.

Hey Hodgo,
ReplyDeleteFirst comment is from Renee. She saw Plitvice Falls on Getaway last night and said it looked divine. Lucky you. It sounds perfect.
Now from me - I am so exicted you have read two books while you're away. I'll move you on to new challenges when you return.
Glad to hear you finally got out for a run. I am getting increasingly nervous about the Noosa tri. What was I thinking??? I haven't run in about three weeks with a combination of shinsplints, London trip - it was too dark in the mornings, a bit of a cold, so many excuses to stay at home in bed in the mornings. I wonder if they'll notice if I cheat and only do 5km.
Can't wait to see your vinyl jacket!
love
Phill and Renee

ReplyDeleteme the blAckberry Any day . It has taken me half an hour to get this far. We have kept the economy of peregian beach going today, our daughters also have the same thought. Jane wants to know what is with the black caterpillars. I have told her to leave them! Children have found the joys of ice chocolates at baked poets today! Sue
