Positives and Negatives
As we are on the ferry to croatia its time to reflect on the good and bad of italy.
The good points:
1. Loved the food. the italians do simple so well. you ask for a pizza and you get one ingredient on it with cheese - not a hosin duck with cucumber and chilli pizza in sight.
2. The people. The people especially in the villages were so kind to us and our inability to communicate and they were always so kind to the kids.
3. Loved the white line down the middle of the road. Every time I saw this I let out a big heavy sigh - it meant that 2 cars are designed to drive side by side on this road.
4. The men. They were brave enough to wear yellow, green and orange pants. Their hair and clothes were always so immaculate and they were always so into themselves they loved to pose.
5. The shoes - the women no matter what they were wearing had a pair of heels on. On a bike, on the beach it didn't matter.
6. The coastline. I loved the way it was so rugged - and on the edge of the cliff would be a tiny church.
7. It has been the holiday of firsts. First time bambinis were on a plane, first time on a train, bus, ferry and first time they stayed in a hotel that had a everything you can eat breakfast buffet.
8. The private beach. Loved the deck chairs and umbrellas and markets on the beach.
The bad points:
1. The roads they were crazy and dangerous and I was so glad to get rid of the car today.
2. Public Toilets - the problem with travelling with bambinis is that they cannot hold on and need to go the toilet NOW with no warning. I have seen some pretty horrid toilets in my time.
3. Siestas. Just when we would get going to explore the shops the sign would go up for a siesta. It most towns the siestas would go from 1pm to 4pm - thats 3 hours of no shopping.
But you know what they always say - if you can't beat them you may as well join them.
Ciao for now.
