When you're 7

Bambini No 2 was lucky enough to have her birthday today.  It turns out that when you are 7 what makes you happy is a trip to the beach and a gelati!  Happy to oblige.  We returned to Forte dei Marmi - minus the busy label markets.

First stop was gelati for all - however the bambinis still claim that its not as "good as peregian gelati"  I personally think its because  there is no bubblegum or pavola flavour.  Unfortunately the wind was blowing which didn't make for a pleasant beach day - but a walk on the windy pier and a bit of lemonade made for a memorable day.

The weather, wind, rain and thunder made for a challenging day on the roads - but once safely back at the farm house and toasting marshmallows by the fireplace (no we are not in Melbourne four seasons in one day - I kid you not) it seems that the birthday day could not get much better.  Baka once again turned her talents to the kitchen and made a 5 layer cake + icing + strawberries to give 7 layers and a dinner of soup and schnitzel - I felt like it was my birthday too.  I hope she remembers this day as being special - beacuse it was for me too.  cioa for now.

    Thanks for being one of my followers! Unfortunately running is not happening. the roads are far too dangerous -no footpaths and definitely no running tracks. I have managed a few - but had a pretty bad fall at lake como (trying to get into a canoe) -so I haven't been able to run much since them. hoping to test the legs today to see if they work still. a gelati a day is making my loose jeans tight!

    Hey Hodge, You have LOTS of followers but the other girlies haven't worked out how to post a comment yet. I am the voice of all of us. Tina, Cath and Moll went out for lunch on Thurs for Tina' bday. I had to work, so did Renee I think. Anyway, they devoted time to discussing your blog so it IS popular!
    Oh, and it's four followers. Claudie is posting her own comments but I couldn't be bothered registering her seperately. She is loving reading about the holiday. She commented yesterday that her skating party was nearly perfect, except Lucy and Georgie weren't there.

Love love love Quebec City

We arrived in Quebec City via train on New Year's Eve. We were happy to say goodbye to montreal. Despite our local being the Gaspar tarvern and the food sensational the city is largish and very cold. We knew that we would love Quebec City before we got here as it involved a train trip to reach our destination. We are big fans of train travel. You often leave the middle of the city and arrive in the middle of the city. Taxi rides from airports to the city I often find depressing as you usually don't drive through the nice part of town. The train trip was 3 hours long and you don't have to be there hours before. We arrived at the very top end of the Northern Territory we arrived hot and tired but a cold drink as we sat and watched the water buffalo and wallabies around our clamping experience erased the pain of the journey. John our guide was an absolute pleasure. We ate well and enjoyed an air boat ride in search of crocodiles

Christmas in lake Louise

We have just spent a week in a winter wonderland. We arrived in banff on 20th December and stayed for 3 nights at banff springs fairmont hotel. I have a always been an economy air travel kind of girl and spend the money on the accommodation. Banff springs was like a castle in the snowy mountains. It was big, luxurious but intimate at the same time. Plenty of spaces to have a drink by the fire, enjoy a game of pool (which the kids loved) and a very sizeable gym. The service was outstanding. There were daytime movies (in a proper cinema with popcorn) and the most incredible thing was that the hotel welcomed pets! So it was not uncommon to see a puppy dog walking through the corridors of the hotel with its owners. Banff is known as a party town (ever since Harry Nina worked here it got it's reputation) it's a beautiful small town (about a 10 minute freezing walk from the hotel) it's about 4 blocks by 3 streets long and is just small enough to give it the cute tag.
