Capri
We sadly said goodbye to Rome and started our journey to Capri. Rome was very hot and we were need of a beach break. We had organised for Carlo (traveller wisely) to drive us from Rome to Naples where we would catch the ferry to Capri. Carlo was a good investment just getting out of Rome buses to the left motorbikes weaving in and out, It's hair raising enough as a passenger so the thought of driving is overwhelming. He was extremely friendly, a great driver and very entertaining. Arriving in Capri to a marina full of chaos and unbearable heat we were looking forward to a swim at our private beach. We arrived to the hotel webber to staff full of Italian attitude. We were told no wifi you must pay, one beach towel per person per day, no children in the bar area after 7 pm, you can only eat lunch here there is nowhere else, do not steal coat hangers from your room, do not take food from breakfast buffet it is forbidden and finally no your room is not ready just sit and wait for your welcome drink ok! The beach was a walk down the cliff and it was not private, it was extra. Welcome to Capri! The view was amazing. We were joined at our hotel by the fat loud Americans who loudly declared over lunch "oh my god that girl is eating soup I'd rather self combust than eat soup". I looked at our beautiful Jess eating soup and took one look at the fat loud American as she gorged on pizza and wine. Our youngest summed it up best later in day when Jess was reading a fitness magazine and he said 'Jess maybe you should give that magazine to the fat lady'. Not a politically correct comment but very funny. We went to Capri in the afternoon and scouted the shops. Did some amusing people watching and found a wonderful restaurant with excellent pesto pasta, seafood risotto, and more. As we watched the sun set through our window and discussed with anticipation a gelati shop Buonocore some say is one of the best in Italy. It did not disappoint. Charlie rated it a 10. The gelato was magnificent and served in a freshly toasted warm waffle cone. While finishing off her ice cream and gazing at the multicoloured sky just after sunset overlooking the limestone cliffs rising from the sea daughter number1 enquires "are we doing this every night!"
