I nearly made lemon butter...
In between my suburban life of ferrying kids around, homework, work, cooking dinner, washing, meeting my girlfriends for coffee and trying to keep fit ...yawn yawn...I did nearly make lemon butter. I was making a lemon lime tart and I had so much mixture left over I could have gone that extra step and made lemon butter. But instead of doing that, I tipped the left over mixture down the sink. It turns out that in my search for a life that is slower, friendlier and perhaps happier - a life where I would find the time to make lemon butter, it could be right under my nose. I couldn't do it - I couldn't make it. I had to race off and be somewhere and part of me didn't want to do it.
There is a whole lot more world out there to explore and its not just about the lemon butter its about, the plane trip, the snack basket, bad plane food, crazy italian drivers, the language, the rain when you have no umbrella, the only ones wearing sun shirts on the beach, endless supply of towels at hotels, room service, the bad wine for 3 euros a bottle, the good wine, the great food, shopping, shopping and not to mention the wonderful company.
We are off. This time its for real. I know we are definitely going because the usual 'just before we leave I have to...' has started to kick in. Its the I just have to clean out the fridge before I go. I haven't looked at what's at the back of my fridge for months perhaps years but now seems like a good time to throw out all of those condiments from the kindy fete (although my youngest was a graduate from there a few years ago!) - It's time to try and find all those crumpled shirts at the back of the cupboard that i keep hiding so I can pretend that all the ironing is done (to myself that is) It's time to do all the filing for this financial year before June 30 rolls around and its time to start a whirlwind of goodbyes and catch up with every single person I haven't seen for weeks, months and perhaps years....Or I could do none of those things, pack our hand luggage and be on our way and play that game.. its time to board.
