Private boat tour.
We have become the private family and clearly don't like doing things with other tourists. After a morning in Capri for breakfast and snacks and a quick swim at the public beach we headed out on a private boat tour. In 2 hours we would see all there is to see at Capri from the water. We arranged to meet our guide at marina piccolo just down from our hotel at 4pm for a 2 hour tour. We waited in the hot sun, but no guide. I rang him and he said 'oh you're there now I will come'. Oh Italy time where 4 pm means at 4 pm i will start thinking about meeting moments later Antonia arrived in a boat which would accommodate us all. We cruised the waters like we were movie stars. We witnessed other boats where clearly the passengers had been drinking champagne in the sun all day. Very entertaining to see people dancing to no music! We passed through grottos and caves and Antonia pointed out holiday houses for famous Italian writers and the owner of Ferrari. We arrived at the green grotto and he encouraged us to dive off the boat into the beautiful water and he would meet us around the other side of the grotto. Then the bambinos started..."It's too cold, is there jelly fish? I don't feel like a swim". My words to the masses, 'everyone jump in the water, this is a once in a life time experience and you will enjoy it !" In everyone went and it was incredible. Bright green water, swimming under some wonderful caves. Mum was right! Back on the boat, we then ventured too the blue grotto. my memory of this with the girlies was pure chaos lining up to get into a small boat and then once getting inside Phil saying the water is so blue like harpic blue toilet cleaner. This time when we went the blue grotto was closed (no boats to take you in) this was an absolute bonus as we could swim into the grotto ( normally not allowed) we could stay as long as we wanted and at one stage were the only ones in there. It was the most incredible experience. The kids weren't keen so z and I went in. Swimming through the small opening the cave was dark but the water was a magic blue colour just like harpic blue toilet cleaner Phil said all those years ago. We swam back to the boat and then the middle child and the youngest changed their minds they wanted to go in to see the blue grotto. the sea was starting to get a bit rough. The youngest got about 20 m from the boat and them declared he didn't want to go but the middle wanted to continue. She loved it! The other 2 bambinos had regrets but I said to add it on to the Vatican tour when they return when they are 18. Unfortunately a bit of sea sickness on the way back marred the return journey but the promise of gelato once we climbed the stairs from the marina to the town centre gave everyone some renewed energy. Feeling salty, tired, grotty but happy we sat down to another amazing eating experience recapping a wonderful day.
