Stop over

I have never been a fan of the stop over. Once I'm on that plane and thoughts turn to home I'm like beam me up Scotty let's  get moving. Despite this we had opted to spend the night in Dubai.

I've never been there before and after our    20 hours in this place I won't be back. After a near perfect trip it all has come unstuck.

It's hot, real hot. Not England heat wave hot, it's about 200 times worse than that. Too hot to do anything even too hot to swim.

The hotel I picked was about an hours drive from the airport (mistake) it's like going to the Gold Coast for a quick stop over in Brisbane.

The hotel the Atlantis palms is like a Disney castle on steroids. It's not magical it's incredibly fake. I made a booking error and tried desperately to change our accommodation. No no no and then finally I pleaded to my fourth supervisor for some compassion and got it. No breakfast no wifi all extra extra charges the list goes on.   What a travelling whinger I have become but my standards are now so high it's hard to come down after our London experience.

Having said all of that. The kids had the time of their lives it has the most amazing waterpark (on steroids as well) and aquarium. There's a water slide that goes through a tunnel with a wall of fish swimming beside you behind glass.

Unfortunately a dehydrated vomit put the fun to an abrupt stop and now we find ourselves in the emerates lounge. making the most of it i'm drinking Moët ( yes please) and devouring the first class meals available. If I am ever to have an unscheduled stop in Dubai again my hotel of choice will be the emerates lounge. Nearly home ... Beam me up
